What should the supplier comparison include?
Give every supplier the same brief and record the differences explicitly. Compare available evidence for the actual laminate, pouch size and filling process; country of manufacture is not a substitute for technical approval.
| Decision | Local converter: questions to ask | Cross-border factory: questions to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Production scope | Which printing, lamination and converting steps are performed in house or subcontracted? | Which steps does the factory perform, and how are outsourced materials controlled? |
| Sample approval | Can samples be tested with your product and filling line before the order? | Which stock, blank and printed samples are available, and how will approvals be recorded? |
| Schedule | What are the approval, production and delivery milestones for this specification? | What are the approval, production, inspection, export, transit and clearance milestones? |
| MOQ and SKUs | What quantity is required per size, material and design? | Can the requested designs share an approved material and size, and what is the MOQ per design? |
| Documents | Do the available product-contact and performance records match the proposed film and use? | Do the records match the destination market, product contact and proposed laminate? |
| Reorders and recovery | How are artwork changes, rejected packs and urgent replenishment handled? | How are retained samples, replacement responsibility, freight and reorder buffers agreed? |
When can a local route be the practical choice?
Prioritize a local option when the launch depends on close filling-line coordination, small urgent top-ups or frequent physical reviews, provided the supplier can meet the specification. Verify the actual production location and available capacity; a local sales address does not establish where every operation occurs.
When should I evaluate Unique Packaging?
Evaluate our factory route when you can plan sample approval, production and delivery around a defined brief. Unique Packaging supports custom and stock pouch discussions, material review and application-specific sampling. Typical custom MOQ is presented from 500 pieces per design; selected digital structures may be reviewed from 100, subject to specification and production confirmation.
Review our factory and process evidence, quality-control workflow and custom pouch formats. Ask for the sample and document set relevant to your project.
How do I compare total delivered cost?
Compare pouch production, setup, proofs, packing, inspection, transport, freight, insurance, import charges, storage and unusable inventory on one agreed delivery basis. Ask each supplier which items are included and who handles the rest. Use current quotations and the destination details rather than a universal saving percentage.
The U.S. International Trade Administration explains how Incoterms clarify transport responsibilities, costs and risk. Confirm the named place and agreed rule in the quote; it does not replace a complete sales specification.
Which print process fits the sourcing plan?
Choose location and printing separately. Digital can support smaller quantities and artwork variation, while gravure requires cylinder planning. Both still need the right material, converting and sample approval. HP's digital packaging examples illustrate multi-SKU applications; they do not establish a supplier's MOQ, capability or lead time.
Use our digital and gravure comparison matrix and supplier quotation checklist to prepare the same scope for each candidate.
What should I send before asking for a recommendation?
Send the product, fill weight, dimensions or reference pouch, required shelf life and storage, material constraints, quantity per design, artwork status, destination and target launch date. Identify the details that are still unknown. Ask for a sample plan, written exclusions and a production schedule anchored to agreed approvals.
Supplier comparison questions
Is an overseas pouch factory always cheaper?
No. Compare actual quotations for the same structure, dimensions, quantity per design, proofing, freight, import costs and usable inventory. A unit price alone cannot establish a saving.
Can a local supplier also offer digital printing?
Yes. Location and print process are separate decisions. Confirm the equipment, converting scope and proofing route with each supplier instead of assuming all local or overseas suppliers use one process.
What does Unique Packaging need for a comparable quote?
Send product, fill weight, dimensions, material or barrier requirements, quantity per design, artwork, destination and the required delivery scope. We review the production and sample route against that brief.
